Government Confirms Nature Conservation Strategy
The Ministry of the Environment today approved Estonia's first-ever comprehensive plan for preserving wildlife species, and protecting and restoring natural habitats.
Adoption of the development strategy, which covers the period through 2020, marks a change from previous national efforts in wildlife management, which had been carried out in a piecemeal fashion by the various agencies involved.
The new program aims to increase public knowledge of nature by including nature studies in all levels of education, developing knowledge of nature conservation, organizing nature-friendly wildlife tourism, diversifying landscapes and habitats, protecting nature sights, increasing compensation for the creation of conservation areas and supporting preservation work, according to uudised.err.ee.
The estimated cost for carrying out the plan is 582.2 million euros.
