The likelihood of gale force winds hitting Estonia on Friday night has prompted Meteorology and Hydrology Institute to issue a storm warning for the country.
Remnants of a tropical system that crossed the Atlantic earlier this week are expected to bring rain by Friday night, particularly in the west of the country. Coastal areas and islands will bear the brunt of the storm, with gusts there expected to reach 80 and 90 kilometers per hour, respectively, while inland winds could gust up to 65 kilometers per hour.
Residents may want to keep their dinghies parked for the weekend as wave heights in the northern Baltic are predicted to be in the 3 to 5-meter range, while those in the Gulf of Riga will be 2 to 3 meters.
The drama is expected continue into the early morning on Saturday, before tapering off somewhat after sunrise. The day should be cloudy with spells of rain, with winds mostly in the 20 to 35 kilometers per hour zone. Temperatures will range from 13 to 16 C.
Sunday should be slightly cloudy and mainly dry. The winds could still reach 35 kilometers per hour in places, but the air will be a milder 15 to 18 C.
