Japan Day to be celebrated with Estonia's longest sushi roll
The local Japanese community and local chefs will gather this Sunday to prepare the longest sushi roll in Estonian history.
The planned length of the traditional Japanese dish is at least 20 meters.
“To our knowledge, it would be the longest not only in Estonia, but so far in the entire Nordic region,” said Daigo Takagi, the head chef of Tallinn's Japanese restaurant Tokumaru, and the man behind the event.
Tagagi will also share his sushi-making tips with locals.
Japanese Ambassador to Estonia Tetsuro Kai will also give a helping hand, as will other local community members.
The event will take place at the Solaris Center in Tallinn on Sunday at 15:00.
Sushi consists of cooked vinegar rice and is combined with other ingredients, such as seafood and vegetables. Sushi rolls are generally rolled in seaweed. The contemporary sushi version was created in the 19th century.
