Winds take out power in Saaremaa
Strong winds overnight knocked out power to a large number of households on the island of Saaremaa.
Around 242 households had lost power on the island by 7:45 this morning, and five households in Lääne-Viru County.
Electrical fault teams throughout Estonia are on high alert.
If you notice a broken power line, you should call the Elekrilevi, the company responsible for power wires. Their fault telephone number is 1343. Broken power lines should not be approached, as they can still be live even when down, and give a life-threatening shock.
You are also asked to wait 10-15 minutes to wait to call the 1343 number in case you are experiencing power disruption. In the intervening time, technicians will be working to ascertain the extent of the fault and send an SMS to customers that are affected.
Strong winds are also forecast today by the Estonian Weather Service, with gusts from the south up to 65 kilometers per hour, especially on the islands and the western shoreline. Daytime temperatures for the country will hover around the freezing mark.
