ERR in Moscow: Gas the Main Topic Between Russia and Ukraine
The question of gas supplies to Ukraine has priority as the cold weather is on the horizon, Russian political experts said at a press conference in Moscow.
ERR's coorespondent in Moscow, Neeme Raud, told ETV on Wednesday that the experts said no deal was signed at a recent meeting of Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko in Minsk.
“Conditionally speaking – would Stalin and Hitler or their representatives have been able to agree on anything during the war?” Vladimir Lepehin, who heads EurAsEC, a Eurasian Union study institute.
Lepehin said the main actor was not even present in Minsk, referring to the United States.
Russian experts say the situation will remain tense in eastern Ukraine, but practical questions must be solved. “The key topic is gas. Europe, not Ukraine is our is currently our partner in the debate.” Lepehin said.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk, the Ukrainian PM, said Russia is planning to stop gas exports through pipelines in Ukraine.
