TransferWise breaks Guinness World Record in Estonia
The Estonian-founded international money transfer platform TransferWise broke a Guinness World Record at the weekend by creating the world’s largest currency symbol made out of people.
The London-based company gathered employees from across its five offices in Europe and the US to complete the giant euro symbol in an Estonian countryside, made up of 351 people from 35 different nationalities. It overtook the previous world record of 327 people, held by the North East Chamber of Commerce (UK).
TransferWise has expanded its workforce in the past twelve months and last weekend, number of employees met up for the bi-annual company holiday, breathing some fresh forest air and breaking the Guinness record along the way.
Founded by Taavet Hinrikus and Kristo Käärmann four years ago, TransferWise has become one of Europe’s fastest growing financial technology companies, transferring money using peer-to peer technology. Financiers such as Andreessen Horowitz, Sir Richard Branson, Peter Thiel and Max Levchin, the co-founders of PayPal, have invested in the company.
