Estonia predicted to win four medals at Rio Olympics
Infostrada Sports, the Netherlands-based sports data and intelligence site, predicts that Estonian athletes will come home with one silver and three bronze medals from 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.
In a “virtual medal table”, Infostrada predicts a silver medal for fencer Nikolai Novosjolov and bronze medals for discus thrower Gerd Kanter, wrestler Heiki Nabi and for the women fencing team.
This medal tally would place Estonia at the 57th position overall, just behind Israel and ahead of Argentina.
Infostrada said that the “virtual medal table” is a statistical model based on results in Olympic Games, World Championships and World Cups (or equivalent). It takes into account the previous results and time.
At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, a total of 32 Estonian athletes - 22 men and 10 women - competed in 11 sports. Estonian team scored two medals – a silver for Heiki Nabi and a bronze for Gerd Kanter – which ranked the country at 63 in the medals table.
The Rio Summer Olympics will open on August 5, 2016.
