Defense Ministry Website Down as 'Anonymous' Hackers Take Credit
The Estonian Defense Ministry's website has been down this morning after the Ukrainian wing of Anonymous, a loose group of hackers, claimed to have launched a cyber attack against it.
Defense Ministry press representative Artur Jugaste told Postimees there was a "cyber incident" this morning and that the website was temporarily taken down as a precaution as officials looked into the matter. He said no other branches of government had been affected.
The website was still down as of 15:15.
The Anonymous statement reads: "Hello citizens of the world, we're Anonymous Ukraine […] Today we've tango down [sic] the web-server of Ministry of Defense of Estonia […] We want NATO leadership to hear our voice, the voice of the Ukrainian people. We do not need to be servants of NATO. Ukrainians do not want to die for interests of NATO member states. Ukraine does not need NATO. Ukraine does not need European Union. Ukraine does not need Russia. Ukraine should not be anybody's servant. We stand for independent Ukraine. Hands off Ukraine!"
