Outdoor Political Ads Prohibited from Today
As the October 20 local elections loom, the period of what legislation calls “active campaigning” begins today, meaning that all outdoor political advertizing is now banned and no new candidates can be registered.
Television stations this morning showed footage of workers busily taking down or papering over the campaign billboards that have become a ubiquitous part of urban landscapes since the beginning of this month.
The Local Government Council Election Act bans all outdoor political ads, including those on public transport and taxis, 40 days before the actual date of the local election.
According to ETV, fines of up to 1,200 euros for individuals or up to 3,200 for legal entities can be handed out if the advertizing rule is broken.
