ERR App Named Country's Best M-Service
The hunt for the nation’s best m-service - an undertaking initiated by the Information System Authority (RIA) - ended today, with a mobile application by Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR) winning the competition.
The application, which runs on the iPhone, Android and Windows Phone platforms, allows users to watch and listen live to TV and radio programs, surf the Estonian-, Russian-, and English-language news portals, keep track of program schedules and access archived materials.
“ERR’s service is user-friendly and enables users to stay informed with the most urgent daily news, regardless of their location,” said Katri Ristal, a member of the jury and cooperation coordinator at the ICT Demo Center.
The ERR application also topped the contest's Media and Entertainment category. In addition, the app will be among the eight m-services that will represent Estonia at the international "World Summit Award Mobile" competition this fall.
The winner of the Business and Commerce category was Qminder, a mobile application for remote queuing. The best in the Health and Environment category was MOBO, an application for orienteering enthusiasts. In the Culture and Education category, the first place went to several applications that provide educational material on nature, all developed by a company Walk & Learn, RIA said in a statement.
In total, 43 domestic mobile applications went head-to-head in the competition.
