An elderly man was killed this morning when his rural Tartu County home went up in flames, bringing the number of fire-related deaths in the last 24 hours up to five.

By the time the rescuers reached the scene, the roof of the house had already caved in on the owner.

Another two died last night in a house fire in Tapa, while two separate apartment fires, one in Ida-Viru and one in Lääne County, each claimed one life yesterday, uudised.err.ee reported.

The latest victims put the total number of people killed in fires in the country this year at 31.
