Estonia's leading pro cyclist Rein Taaramäe says a chest cold has put the crimp in his hopes for the Paris-Nice tour.
"It's been a week since the Vuelta a Andalucia where I finished strong and figured Paris-Nice would be more or less on autopilot mode. Today my status is pretty pitiful, though," Taaramäe posted in a blog on March 1.
He came down with a respiratory infection last Saturday.
"All of my workouts this week have been based on how I feel and I have trained more as if I were a 14-15-year-old boy. I haven't been able to work out the way I've wanted on any day."
He said the workouts were only "2-3-hour ambles."
But he said his start is in no doubt. He wrote that he was prescribed antibiotics, lozenges, cough syrup and "some powdered beverage" by the team doctor.
