Estonian Takes Gold at World Indoor Rowing Event

Estonian athlete Kaisa Pajusalu won her second gold medal at the World Indoor Rowing Championships held in Boston on February 20.

Pajusalu took the highest position on the pedestal in the women’s 2,000-meter distance with 6:37.3, Postimees reported. The second place went to Lauren Schmetterling from the Riverside Boat Club in Massachusets (6:48.3), followed by Jenny van Dobben de Bruijn from Netherlands (6:49.6).

In total, there were 196 participants in the women's open category (no age or weight restrictions).

The competition, initiated by a group of US Olympic rowers, first took place in Boston in 1980. Since 2008, athletes compete in 58 categories including lightweight, heavyweight, juniors and masters.

Last week, Pajusalu also became Estonian champion in 2,000 meters indoor rowing with 6:37.2.
