Raio Piiroja, captain of the Estonian National Football Team, will have to start shopping for a new club following a decision by Dutch team Vitesse not to extend his contract.
In a statement published on the its website on March 22, Vitesse said that it would not be renewing the contracts of five players, Piiroja among them.
The 32-year-old defender underwent an operation to correct a cartilage problem shortly after Estonia went up against Ireland in the Euro 2012 playoffs. Recovery took two months, during which he had to stay off the pitch.
Piiroja had signed a year-long contract with the top division Dutch club last summer. The deal expires June 30.
