On Saturday the tenth Schilling Music Festival was held in the summer gardens of Kilingi-Nõmme in Pärnu County. Appropriate for the festival’s tenth anniversary, the weather was beautiful and the mood was great.
While during Estonia’s long winter much seems to move towards the most important economic centers, such as Tallinn and Tartu, in summer the people head in the opposite direction. One of the favorite destinations of the summer season both for Estonians as well as visitors is Pärnu.
Kilingi-Nõmme is a sleepy town of 2,300. The Schilling festival was first held ten years ago and brought together indie bands from various countries. Until today it has concentrated on independent and alternative music from around the world.
This year, performing acts included British indie act British Sea Power, Russian shoegaze group Pinkshinyultrablast, internationally acclaimed Finnish electropop artist Jaakko Eino Kalevi, and hypnotic Finnish psych rock band Black Lizard.
Estonian bands performed as well, including Pastacas, who introduced their new record, hip hop duo Öökülm, Mick Pedaja, and SU-MU.
