Bank of Estonia launches coin design competitions
Bank of Estonia has announced a competition to design three commemorative coins featuring Paul Keres, Jaan Poska and Estonian athletes at the 2016 Olympic Games.
Keres, Estonia's most gifted chess player, would have turned 100 in 2016. One side of the coin will remain the same while the national side should have the words “Eesti” and “Paul Keres” as well as the year. This is the first time the bank will issue specially designed coins for wider circulation. Keres was also portrayed on the Estonian five-kroon note, which was replaced by euro in 2011.
In a separate competition, the bank is asking for designs for two 10-euro-commemorative-coins featuring the statesman Poska, who was born 150 years ago next year, and an ode to the Estonian athletes set to compete in Brazil next year.
The deadline is at noon on August 18 for both competitions, by which time sketches should be sent to the bank. The price is 2,000 euros for each winner.
