'Poland's Greatest Living Composer' in Town for Festival Opener
The music festival MustonenFest's opening concert today in Tallinn presents the work of Polish living legend, conductor and composer Krzysztof Penderecki.
The festival's opening concert will center on Penderecki's “Credo,” performed by the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, girls' choir Ellerhein, mixed choir Latvija and soloists Claire Meghnagi, Helen Lokuta, Monika-Evelin Liiv, Mati Turi and Priit Volmer. The conductor is Andres Mustonen, said a statement released by the organizers.
An hour before the concert at 18:00, fans can meet Penderecki in person at the Estonia Concert Hall.
Mustonen's appreciation for Latvian musicians continues as the cellist Mischa Maisky is to perform in the opening concert. Gidon Kremer, a Latvian violinist, can also be experienced at the festival. The works of Mozart, Respighi and Tchaikovsky will be performed today.
Andres Mustonen himself will perform with his ensemble Hortus Musicus, accompanied by Kremerata Baltica this time - a chamber orchestra consisting of young musicians from the Baltic countries.
The festival is taking place in four Estonian cities – Tallinn, Tartu, Pärnu and Jõhvi - until February 9.
