Maestro: Estonia Needs New Opera House, Not National Museum
Investing into the new building of the National Museum would be a waste of money, which should be used for the construction a new opera house in Tallinn instead, world-renowned orchestra conductor Neeme Järvi said.
The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra (ERSO) led by chief conductor Neeme Järvi plays most of its home concerts at the Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn, sating from the beginning of the 20th century. According to the maestro, the venue is not suitable for the orchestra because it was once built as a drama theatre, Delfi reported.
Besides the unsuitable working conditions, Järvi lamented the low salaries of musicians that are forcing talented people to migrate. He said that it is impossible to motivate musicians to stay in Estonia, while, for instance, in Germany their potential salary could be six to ten times higher.
