Eri Klas' funeral service
Composer and musician Eri Klas' funeral service took place in Estonia Concert Hall on Wednesday. Anyone who wanted to attend was welcome.
The doors of Estonia Concert Hall opened at 11 o'clock, anyone attending could add their names to a condolance book. The orchestra and choir of the Estonian National Opera, the Tallinn Philharmonic Chamber Choir, the Tallinn Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, the Estonian National Men's Choir, the Tallinn City Theatre Chamber Quartet, as well as soloists Heli Veskus, Ville Rusanen, and violinist Andrus Haav performed. The performances were conducted by Vello Pähn, Lauri Sirp, Risto Joost, Jüri Alperten, Arvo Volmer and Mikk Üleoja.
Eri Klas directed over a hundred symphony orchestras in 40 countries. He had been involved with the Estonian National Opera and Estonia Concert Hall since 1965 as a conductor and artistic director, and from 1975 to 1994 its chief conductor. From 1994 onwards Klas was the honorary conductor of this national institution. Beginning in 2004, Klas was the chairman of the National Opera's supervisory board.
