Sofi Oksanen's 'Purge' Set to Conquer Spanish Literary Market
The multi-awarded Finnish writer with Estonian roots, Sofi Oksanen was in Barcelona on March 10 to give a personal touch to the promotion of her freshly-translated novel "Purge".
The book has just been translated into both Catalan and Spanish languages to be up for grabs in Spain's bookstores. Oksanen's novel is also reckoned to become one of the bestsellers in Catalonia's main literary event Sant Jordi, which will be held on April 23.
With the most recent Catalan and Spanish translations, "Purge" has already been published in 38 languages. The novel, mostly set in Estonia, is based in part on stories from Oksanen's family that are connected to events in Estonian and Finnish history during the end of the 1930s and the beginning of the 1990s.
