Estonian Movie Database Launched
A new film database went online yesterday to wrap up a year of celebrations marking 100 years since the birth of Estonian moviemaking.
The database covers Estonian films produced between 1912 and 2012 - over 15,000 films and newsreels and 3,000 filmmakers and actors, according to the organizers of the centennial celebrations.
While the website will not be fully updated before 2017, most feature movies, documentaries and student films are already online. Translation of the database into English is planned to go ahead from the beginning of next year, according to the website.
Visitors to the site can watch full-length documentaries, animations, student movies and clips of feature movies. Due to copyright laws, visitors will not be able to view many full-length movies, according to Postimees.
The database has been bankrolled by the Estonian Film Foundation, Ministry of Culture, Cultural Endowment of Estonia, Estonian Public Broadcasting and EU Structural Funds.
