Construction Finally to Start on Arts and Culture Venue
The European Capital of Culture events scheduled for experimental arts and culture venue Kultuurikatel look set to go ahead this summer after a contract was signed on March 7 to renovate the centre.
By now the contract has been delayed for more than six months because of misdemeanor proceedings and a court dispute over the Estconde-E construction company, which after winning the building procurement turned out to be in financial debt.
The new building contract with construction company Astlanda Ehitus has finally brought resolution, said Yana Toom, Deputy Mayor of Tallinn.
Nevertheless, much time has been lost due to the litigation, which has in turn postponed the renovation, she added.
The new agreement period is four years and the construction work necessary for summer events will start within the few next weeks, according to Raepress.
The first part of the renovation will include the building of rooms for culture, architecture and design centers. Space accommodating old boiler vats will be re-opened to visitors as a part of the public space. The venue’s largest chimney will be transformed into one of Tallinn's highest viewing platforms which will be accessible by an elevator.
