Real Snail Mail at Kumu Media Art Show
It is opening day for "Gateways," one of this year's biggest media art exhibits in Europe, hosted by the Kumu Art Museum, and boasting works from 27 artists and 16 countries.
One of the more humorous exhibits, called "Real Snail Mail," is by a British artist group called "Boredomsearch." "[Real live snails] have got these radio frequency identification chips on them. When they go over one of the collection readers in the enclosure, they will pick up 10 emails, and then they have to trundle all the way to a forward reader to dispatch those emails. That can take them from two days to 17 days," said Vicky Isley, one of the artists.
"A lot of works deal with the internet as another source where art can happen," curator Sabine Himmelsbach told ETV.
Visitors can design computer code t-shirts, and use a smart phone application to relocate world famous sculptures to Tallinn.
