VIDEO: Mägi Belts Out 'Koit' at Ukraine Benefit Concert (1)
Tõnis Mägi capped the benefit for Ukraine last night at Nordea Concert Hall with a rendition of "Koit" (Dawn).
The moving unofficial anthem of the Singing Revolution era, which builds slowly from a snare and chamber orchestra playing a triplet rhythm, increasing in intensity, brought the audience at the Nordea to their feet.
The concert and related activities have brought in 175,000 euros, which will go to buying first aid supplies for the nation.
Contributing artists included a number of famous Estonian singers as well as the local Ukrainian folk ensemble Svjata Vatra and a visiting Ukrainian folk rock group Haydamaky, Estonian Defense Forces Orchestra and Estonian-Ukrainian choir Ukraina.
The concert was organized by the NGO Free Ukraine.
Telephone lines will remain open until November 30. The toll-free numbers for making a donation are: 9007701 (5 euros); 9007702 (10 euros); and 9007703 (20 euros).
