Urbanists Explore Notions of Socialism and Post-Socialism
Today, the conference "Socialist And Post-Socialist Urbanizations: Architecture, Land And Property Rights", organized by the Estonian Academy of Arts, kicks off with panels in Tallinn, featuring presentations from an array of scholars and also offering urban tours.
The sessions include three keynote speeches: “Postmodernism is almost all right. From Poland to the Middle East, and back” by Łukasz Stanek, “The value of land as a fiction” by Anne Haila, and “Farewell from welfare?” by Stefan Rettich.
aOn Sunday, the last day of the conference, two urban walks will be organized by Linnalabor (Estonian Urban Lab) – a trip by foot to the Soviet housing estate Väike-Õismäe and a bus trip on the topic of restitution.
More information available at the conference website.
The Estonian Urbanists' Review U, published by Linnalabor, also put together a special issue to complement the conference, with articles by keynote speakers and other relevant researchers. The issue will be available online from next week at the publication's website.
