OÜ Geneva, a Narva-based company, is planning to build an 18-million-euro concert hall in Narva-Jõesuu, a resort town located on the north coast of Estonia near the Russian border.

The company behind the project has so far been coordinating the activities of the Geneva culture and recreation center in Narva, owns a restaurant in the Narva castle and organizes an annual international bikefest "Narva Bike," ERR radio news reported.

They are now planning to extend their reach beyond Narva to Narva-Jõesuu, first building a concert hall that will seat 1,500. City officials have already granted Geneva a building permit and the project has entered planning phase.

In addition to the concert hall, Geneva plans to build a small hotel and a restaurant, complete with a parking lot, on the same plot of land. They have cited Jurmala, and even Sochi, as examples for the development.

"We are taking the project very seriously. The local authorities are also very interested in it. The concert hall will cater to both the local inhabitants as well as visitors," said project manager Andrei Pobežimov.

The mayor of Narva-Jõesuu, Iraida Tšubenko, said that a concert hall is important for the town, as it currently lacks a culture center altogether. She also hopes the new hall will create new jobs and encourage more people to visit the once-popular resort, which saw a sharp decline in visitor numbers after Estonia became independent .

Pobežimov said first estimations put the combined cost of the complex at around 15-18 million euros. He did not disclose who the main investors will be.
