Estonian Film of the Year to Be Announced Today
The Association of Estonian Film Journalists will name the nation's Film of the Year for 2012 at an event in Tallinn's Sõprus Cinema this afternoon.
The candidates for the bronze Neitsi Maali are feature films “Seenelkäik” (Mushrooming) and “Vasaku jala reede” (Bad Hair Friday); documentaries “Varesesaare venelased” (Varesesaar Russians) and “Tööpealkiri: imelaps” (Working Title: Wunderkind); and the animated film “Villa Antropoff,” a statement from the association said. The winner will also receive a monetary prize.
When the 2011 awards were given out a year ago, the top prize went to Jaan Tootsen's documentary “Uus Maailm” (New World). “Melancholia,” Lars von Trier's film about severe depression, took the prize for the best foreign film featured in Estonian cinemas.
Today's awards mark the 20th year that the prize has been given out. The Association of Estonian Film Journalists has been operating since 1993.
