NO99 first Estonian theater to play in Avignon
NO99 is the first Estonian theater to be included in the main program of the international theater festival Avignon, one of the most important performing arts events in the world.
Minister of Culture Indrek Saar who is also attending the festival, confirmed that NO99 has proven to be very successful in France – the production of Tiit Ojasoo and Ene-Liis Semper titled “My Wife Got Angry” is the first Estonian theatre production to be chosen for the main program of the Avignon festival.
“The productions to be included in the program are chosen by a team of professionals. The expectations are high and meeting them is anything but easy and being chosen for the Avignon main program along with other top world productions is all the more significant – not just for NO99, but in the history of Estonian theater as a whole,” Saar said.
This year, the Avignon festival will be celebrating its 69th anniversary. The main program of the festival comprises over 40 productions on twenty stages. The production titled “My Wife Got Angry” was already well received by the French audience when played on two nights during the eLU festival in Nantes at the end of 2014.
NO99's participation in the Avignon festival is supported by the Ministry of Culture with 13,570 euros from the “Estonian Culture in the World” grant program.
