Estonians top museum visitors in Europe
According to the freshly released Statistical Yearbook, Estonians visited museums on average 2.9 times in 2014, the highest figure in Europe by far.
That figure for Estonia was only 2.5 in 2013, which was also the highest in Europe. Norway was second in 2013 with 2.1 visits per person, followed by Sweden (1.9) and Slovenia (1.7) following.
In 2014, Estonia had 256 museums.
Cinema visitor numbers have increased the previous nine years with a record of 2.6 million visits last year. Estonian cinemas showed 252 different films, of which 28 were local, 157 from the United States, 148 from Europe and 20 from other nations.
The number of television stations stayed at 14 – the same number as in the previous year, but two new radio stations were set up to make it 35 for the entire nation. The number of public libraries dropped by seven to 549. Library visitor numbers dropped by 2.5 percent and the number of books borrowing by 4.3 percent.
Statistics Estonia released its 2014 yearbook this week. The 450-page book is available in English online for free.
