Last Kroon Stamps Soon Out of Circulation
Postage stamps denominated only in kroons, the former national currency, will no longer be valid after the turn of the calendar next week.
Officials for postal service Eesti Post said it's unlikely households have many of the older stamps left, as the Estonian postal service switched to double kroon/euro denominations in 2005, six years before Estonia joined the Eurozone.
And the first Estonian stamp indicating its would-be value in euros - a commemorative issue marking the 50th anniversary of the European Commission - was issued even before that, in 1999.
The kroon stamps will not fade from use completely without ceremony, however. A special cancellation will be in use on December 31 at the Central Post Office in Tallinn. It can be viewed here.
