Documentary and Concert Film on Pärt in the Works
ERR, in cooperation with Accentus Music and Change Performing Arts, will produce two exclusive films about the "Adam's Lament" concert by Arvo Pärt and Robert Wilson. The films, one a documentary and the other a concert recording, will become globally available in autumn 2015.
The documentary will follow Estonian classical composer Arvo Pärt and American stage director Robert Wilson during the production of the "Adam's Lament" until its premiere in May 2015. The film offers a glimpse to the inner world of these two world-renown artists.
The documentary will be directed by Günter Atteln from Accentus Music, who said that it takes as its subject matter two people with very different histories but who, nevertheless, have some distinct similarities in them.
The documentary will show where its protagonists were born and raised in Estonia and America respectively. "The film follows the creative roots of Pärt and Wilson and the motivations behind their work, visiting their homes and following them around," Atteln said. The production team also accompanied Pärt to Japan, where he was presented with the Praemium Imperiale award.
The State Concert Institute (Eesti Kontsert), in cooperation with Milan-based independent production company Change Performing Arts, will also release a concert recording of the "Adam's Lament", the premiers of which are held in May 12 to 15, 2015. The concert is dedicated to Pärt's 80th anniversary. The production is created by Pärt and Wilson together with his international team.
The production is one of the leading theater visionaries's interpretation of Pärt's music and its themes. There will be three main works featured in the production: "Adam's Lament", "Tabula rasa", "Miserere", which are combined with a new work, "Sequentiae", especially created for this event.
The production also involves musical director and conductor Tõnu Kaljuste, the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir, Tallinn Chamber Orchestra, and soloists, actors, theater and dance students from Estonia and Norway.
The tickets will go on sale on November 3.
Paul Smaczny, the founder of Accentus Music, said the films will be sold to TV channels, cinemas and festivals in 50 countries in Europe, America and Asia. They will premiere in September 2015 when Arvo Pärt celebrates his 80th birthday.
Tarmo Mutso, the director of Enterprise Estonia Tourist Board, said that according to the prognosis, the films should be viewed by around 50 million people worldwide. "Arvo Pärt has been the most performed contemporary composer in the world for the past three years. Our aim is to strengthen the connection between Pärt and Estonia in the global consciousness."
