Southern Estonia's Best Tourist Attraction, Event Picked
On December 7, the South-Estonian Tourism Foundation gave out this year's awards for the best tourist attraction and event in the country's south.
Tartu’s Ahhaa Science Center was named the best tourist attraction, ETV reported.
"This recognition is very important for the center," said Pilvi Kolk, member of the board of Ahhaa. "In my opinion, it is great that the center is operating in Tartu, because it brings tourists beyond Tallinn, which obviously is not the only place to go in Estonia," Kolk said.
Valga County’s annual Military History Festival, which this year took place in August, was titled as the best tourism event. Other nominees for the award included the annual Tartu Hanseatic Days and Europe’s largest folk festival, Europeade, which in 2011 was hosted in Tartu.
According to Kätlin Kuznetsova, chief executive of the foundation, there are many providers in southern Estonia that offer small yet exciting services. In order to stay competitive, the businesses must join forces and get the word out, said Kuznetsova.
