The 19th edition of the popular Black Nights Film Festival kicked off on Friday.

The festival was launched in 1997 and in its first year screened 25 full length films to 4,500 cinema-goers. Now, almost two decades later, it is one of the leading film festivals in northeastern Europe. In 2014, the full lineup included 662 films and over 775,000 admissions.

This year's festival got its official start on November 13 at Nordea Concert Hall.
