Outdoor Trails a Popular Workout
The country's outdoor activities trails attracted an average 70,000 visits per week or 4 million for the entire year of 2010.
Since 2004, 22 million euros - including 6.5 million euros of EU money - have been invested into the so-called "health paths.“ The trails include 400 kilometers of skiing tracks that are maintained daily.
A large new bicycle and jogging path, constructed mostly of old lumber from train tracks, will soon be built in Tallinn.
"On the one side, the new path will lighten the load for existing paths, at the same time allowing more people to safely jog or bike to work and school,“ said Toomas Annus, chairman of the trails foundation.
