Joint Baltic film 'Seneca's Day' to seek foreign language film Oscar

Lithuanian film experts have decided to enter feature film "Seneca's Day," the first ever full-length feature film created in cooperation with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, for nomination to the Best Foreign Language Film category of the 89th Academy Awards in 2017, representing Lithuania.

The movie's director and screenwriter, former Lithuanian rockstar Kristijonas Vildžiūnas, has previously earned international attention for earlier works. His most recent prior feature film "Back to Your Arms" ("Kai apkabinsiu tave") won eight Lithuanian Silver Stork ("Sidabrinė gervė") film awards and was also nominated for the 2011 Oscars in the Best Foreign Language Film category as as well.

"Seneca's Day" is the first full-length feature film to be jointly produced in cooperation with Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania; it was produced by Riina Sildos (Amrion Production, Estonia), Uljana Kim (Studio Uljana Kim, Lithuania) and Roberts Vinovskis (Locomotive Productions, Latvia).

The autobiographical-style film depicts the daring of youth and the dream of one group of friends during a time when three Baltic States vowed freedom hand-in-hand in the 2 million person-long Baltic Way.

"Seneca's Day" features actors Dainius Gavenonis, Marijus Mažūnas, Elžbieta Latėnaitė, Ina Marija Bartaitė as well as Estonian Mait Malmsten, and th soundtrack includes music from the director's old band Šiaures Kryptis ("Northern Direction") as well as esteemed Estonian composer Arvo Pärt.

The 89th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2016.
