NO99 Theater to Stage 'Savisaar' Musical
The often political-leaning theater, which once blurred the line between stage and reality by holding a fake party convention, has announced a new work named after a real-life politician.
The provocatively titled musical "Savisaar," after the prominent political figure and current mayor of Tallinn Edgar Savisaar, will premiere on February 2015 at the Nordea Concert Hall. Directors of the musical have said it is an "epic" that addresses "all topical issues" of the modern era. In the center of the unfolding tragedy is an emotional conflict between the individual and the society.
The promotion reads: "Savisaar is a political musical about today’s world. Major decisions are replaced by minor ones. Explosions are replaced by squeaks. Democracy has nodded off into slumber. Our children will start living worse than us. The world is burning to ashes in a small flame and someone is looking on - someone who in former times could make hundreds of thousands of people fall silent with a single gesture. He would like time to still be in that place. But it isn’t. The world spins at breakneck speed in a centrifuge of cataclysms. We used to feel sympathy for beetles. Now we can’t manage to do the same even for people."
Savisaar follows NO99 productions such as the award-winning "United Estonia" and "The Rise and Fall of Estonia," presents the viewers with a colorful gallery of characters, played by the NO99 troupe and choir.
The musical will be directed by Ene-Liis Semper and Tiit Ojasoo and include a city-wide marketing campaign.
It will premiere on February 6, 2015.
All performances will have subtitles in English and Russian.
