Georgian Film-Maker of 'Tangerines' Fame Making New Film Set in Estonia
Zaza Urušadze, whose film "Tangerines", about Estonians in war-torn 1990s Abkhazia, continues to do well on the festival circuit, is making a new film about Estonia.
"I've started work on a new screenplay penned by Dagmar Raudam," Urušadze told Postimees daily on Sunday. "It's again tied to Estonia, a land I have come to love. A story of a Georgian youth who fled the Abkhazian war to Estonia and now is on a search for identity."
He said he hoped it would be another joint production with Estonia and that Ivo Felt, a "high-quality producer" would come aboard. "It's a joy to work with him," he said.
"Tangerines" was recently the second runner-up in Seattle. It has garnered some 20 awards. It also started a cinema run in Poland, as one of the first countries to see commercial potential in the story of an Estonian villager who finds himself in the role of a peacemaker between warring nations.
