Estonian composer wins two Danish Music Awards
Estonian saxophone player and composer Maria Faust has won "Jazz composer of the Year" and "Special Release of the Year" Danish Music Awards for her album "Maria Faust Sacrum Facere".
Denmark-based Faust is a composition student at the prestigious Rythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. She is also the leader of several bands, which have played all over Europe, as well as in Russia and China.
"I would have never expected that an album inspired by Estonian runo singing gets so much attention from abroad. That is what pleases me the most," she told ERR after her nomination, adding that the album is a mix of various styles and appeals to a very targeted audience.
The music is written for the most unusual line-up, combining the sounds of a brass ensemble with that of Estonian zither (kannel).
Faust was also nominated to Danish "Composer of the Year" award in 2013 for her album "Maria Faust Jazz Catastrophe".
