Music Days Festival Concludes With Awards
The works of 70 composers were heard last week during Estonian Music Days, an annual festival that introduces the latest compositions.
This year's laureates were Jüri Reinvere, for his quartets, which premiered last year in a performance by the Sinfonietta Riga strings quartet; and Märt-Matis Lill, for his work, “Ruins of Hara Hoto,” its debut performed last year by the National Symphony Orchestra and conducted by Mihhail Gerts.
The laureates were selected by board of the Composers' Union.
Composers are now preparing for premieres in Tallinn Music Week, which goes from this Thursday to Saturday.
Featured composers include Mirjam Tally, Galina Grigorjeva, Ardo Ran Varres, Tatjana Kozlova, Liisa Hirsch, Rein Rannap ja Taavi Kerikmäe.
Performers include U:, Una Corda, Prezioso, the National Male Choir conducted by Mikk Üleoja, as well as solo musicians Toomas Vavilov, Jaak Lutsoja, Anto Õnnis and Ekke Västrik.
