Ex-Ambassador Proposes Esto-Finn Cultural Fund
Estophiles in Finland proposed to the Estonian Ministry of Culture that an Estonian-Finnish cultural foundation be created to strengthen ties between the two Finno-Ugric countries.
In a letter to the ministry, the former Finnish ambassador to Estonia Jaakko Blomberg and the president of the Estonian Academic Club in Helsinki Gunnar Okk said the funding could come from both governments as well as private donors, the goal being an initial capital of 1 million euros that would be split between the two countries.
The money pot would fund cultural projects that comprise both countries. A council of three representatives from each country and a revolving chair, the letter wrote, could preside over the activities.
The Ministry of Culture responded to uudised.err.ee that it has not yet been able to consider the proposal.
