Using a selection of examples that have been considered the most prominent of their time, this exhibition contextualizes the Estonian design landscape and reveals the various aspects that are its most distinguishing characteristics.
Friday, Nov. 4 - Saturday, Nov. 26
Exhibition of modern Estonian design in Hiiumaa
Nelja Nurga Gallery, Kärdla, Hiiumaa
The main focus is on interior decoration: product design made of natural materials, innovative uses of traditional material, responsible production and recycling. There are textiles and wood products that are ingenious and fun. The exhibition was opened by professor Aivar Habakukk, head of product design department of the Estonian Academy of Arts.
Wednesday, Nov. 9 - Monday, Nov. 27
Lettering: Artist's books and cut-outs by Varga Gábor Farkas (Hungary)
Estonian Printing Museum, Tartu
Gábor’s works have previously been shown both in Hungary and abroad, but this is the first exhibition of his works in Estonia. As such, the exhibition offers a unique glimpse into contemporary Hungarian graphic design.

Black Nights Film Festival 2016 (PÖFF)
Various locations, Tallinn/Tartu
The biggest and most important film festival in Estonia has begun and in addition to all of the important parts of the festival, there is also a film industry program which will bring films and filmmakers to Tallinn from more than 70 countries from ranging from the Americas to Asia.
Sunday, Nov. 13 - Wednesday, Nov. 23
3rd Tallinn International Piano Competition
Estonia Concert Hall, Tallinn
This competition has 59 participants from 17 countries, including Japan, Korea, Ukraine, Serbia, Poland, Russia and Finland, as well as 12 pianists from Estonia. The competition will be held in three rounds, all of which are open to the public and the last of which will be performed together with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Arvo Volmer.
Tuesday, Nov. 15
Russian Theatre of Estonia, Tallinn
The silent challenge of Murnau from a century ago has been accepted by Olav Ehala, one of Estonia’s most beloved composers and pianists, who will take to the stage in the role of accompanist and create a unique world of sounds around the silent film. Murnau’s "Faust" was the first film to be screened at the Gloria Palace cinema theater 90 years ago.

Just Film, which takes place annually in the second half of November, screens over 50 films which are suitable for pre-schoolers and high school graduates alike. It is part of PÖFF, but on its own is also the biggest film festival for children of all ages.
Saturday, Nov. 19
Lounging concert: TRIO Soon, Piho, Lepasson
Estonian Traditional Music Center, Viljandi
The center's great hall will be filled with comfortable loungers and a cozy atmosphere created in which everyone will be invited to let their thoughts wander away from everyday concerns by listening to beautiful native zither (kannel) music.
