Graffiti Turns Cargo Containers into Art
Street art festival KONT 2011, where seven graffiti artists from around the world will turn eight shipping containers into an urban masterpiece, takes place at the old fishing port of Tallinn from August 9 to 21.
Throughout the festival, the public will be able to observe the process of creating legal street art while communicating with the artists and even trying their own hand at graffiti, according to the event organizers.
As a result of the 13-day event, each individually painted container will start sailing the seven seas, said Maria-Kristiina Soomre, curator at the Kumu art museum.
In addition to Estonian professional graffitists, promising street artists from Italy, Brazil, France and Poland will also contribute to the transformation of ordinary containers into eye-catchers.
The street art festival is part of this year's European Capital of Culture program.
