Today's International Day of Music provides everyone with a chance to capture a special musical moment in the most unexpected places. Around 800 musicians will give over 200 free concerts all over the country.

In addition to traditional venues, dozens of concerts will take place in rather unorthodox places, including on board an Estonian Air flight to Amsterdam, buses and trolley buses, fast food restaurants, hospitals, swimming pools and shops.

This is the third time the International Day of Music is celebrated in Estonia and the first time it's done as high as 10 kilometers above ground.

Most of the 200 concerts featured in the Music Day's main program will run for around 30 minutes and are held during the day. You can see the full program here (in Estonian but includes an interactive map).

In addition to hundreds of public and private concerts, the day also includes several side programs like "Music and Science", "Music and Film" and "Music and Taste".

The day culminates with the annual music awards ceremony in Estonia Concert Hall. The ceremony will be broadcast live on ETV and Klassikaraadio starting at 19:00.

Today's celebrations are part of the wider Year of Music program. The day has has been organized by the Estonian Music Council.

The International Day of Music was first celebrated in 1975. It was initiated by Lord Yehudi Menuhin, then head of the International Music Council, to highlight the importance of music in everyday life and encourage the promotion of musical art among all sections of society.
