Culture Capital Costs Amount to €15 Million
The European Capital of Culture festivities this year, preparations for which began already in 2007, have cost taxpayers 15 million euros.
Of that, 17.5 percent has gone toward paying wages.
Mihhail Kõlvart, deputy mayor of Tallinn, called the culture capital undertaking a success. By the end of September, more than one million people had visited events in the program. “Productivity in the culture sector has increased noticeably and we have seen the all-time best tourism indicators," Kõlvart said.
The culture capital has not only introduced the top creative minds of Estonia, but also has served as a launch pad for new faces, he added.
