Traditional Christmas Market to Open
The capital's annually held Christmas market, where mostly local artisans sell variety of original homemade products and gift items, will open at the Town Hall Square on November 26.
Wooden bowls, wickerwork, ceramics and glassware are just some of the handicraft items that will be up for sale at the market until January 8.
“The Christmas market has never been a place just for trade,” said Diana Harusoo, organizer of the undertaking. “What’s more important is the cultural experience, that is brought by the Santa Claus, a common market theme and a variegated concert program,” Harusoo said.
The market will be set up right next to the capital’s 20-meter Christmas tree. The local Lutheran choir will give the opening concert.
On November 27, the Christmas tree, decorated with 9,600 LED lights and 15 sets of snowball lights will be switched on, right after the the mayor of Tallinn and Rev. Jaan Tammsalu light the candle for the first Sunday of Advent.
