Marking Tallinn TV Tower's 33rd anniversary, parachutists are taking the plunge from the 170-meter-high viewing platform.

Seventy people from around the world will leap  over the course of three days.

"This is my first time in Estonia and my first time jumping here and it's been really cool so far. It feels really good. I haven't done a tower like this in quite a few years so I am very excited. Of course every jump is unique and this one is a very nice tower," Amanda Vicharelli, who is from California, told uudised.err.ee.

One parachutist, from the UK, was lightly injured and was taken to the hospital for a medical checkup.

The 314-meter tower is Estonia's tallest structure. Besieged by Russian tanks in 1991, the building had a central role in the climax of the country's fight for independence, when Estonian police officers threatened to release gas from the tower's fire extinguishing system to stop invading soldiers attempting to gain control of the nation's broadcasting.

It was renovated and reopened to the public in 2012.
