The 2016 edition of Eesti Laul continues this Saturday with the second semi-final. The final act to perform will be girl band La La Ladies.

Pop trio La La Ladies will be singing in Eesti Laul about the merits of being unique, and that is definitely the best way to describe the women who make up this band.

Redhead Inga Tislar is the youngest member of the band at nineteen years old and is from Estonia's capital city, Tallinn. The half Russian singer is a talented linguist and speaks four languages, Estonian, Russian, English and French.

Tislar has been performing her whole life as a dancer, pianist and singer and is currently studying pop and jazz singing. She is also a song writer and has had played on the radio, an achievement which she downplays.

"I've had some songs on the radio since I was fifteen, but it wasn't anything major," she stated.

The other members of the group describe Tislar as being the calmest in the band and bringing a "youthful energy".

Blonde Kethi Uibomägi is twenty six and comes from the Estonian side of the southern border city Valga. Uibomägi is one of roughly fifteen thousand ethnic Seto people in Estonia and is fluent in the Seto language.

Uibomägi also has been a singer and performer from an early age but described herself as "always coming second" when it came to being selected for performances. At the age of seventeen she moved to Tallinn to study at a singing school and prior to forming La La Ladies was performing in musicals and on cruise ships. In addition to performing, she also works in a law firm.

For Uibomägi, she feels happy to be working with a group of people that she resonates with so well.

"I have always wanted to perform with people I click with, and we click!" she exclaimed.

Brunette Diana Varik is proudly the oldest member of the band at twenty nine and is originally from Kuressare, the biggest city on Estonia's largest island, Saaremaa. Like Tislar, Varik is also half Russian.

Varik has been playing piano since she was seven and dancing since she was eleven. She used to perform in choirs in her youth because "everyone else was doing it" and has even been a backing dancer for 2014 Eesti Laul winner Tanja.
Currently she is studying a master's degree in Politics and working as an office manager during the week while performing in a number of variety television shows. For Varik, performing is an outlet for the other things in her life that she sees as "boring".

"I need to get my energy out. I used to be very serious but now I have a lot of energy, it was like a second puberty!" she laughed.

The band formed when Tanja and songwriter Timo Vendt asked the girls if they would like to be a part of a project she had planned. After a year of email exchange plans finally were acted upon and the La La Ladies were formed.

'Unikaalne' (Unique) is the band's second single and their first entry into Eesti Laul. The message of the song is one of empowerment.

"Everyone is unique and the song is about managing to do things by yourself and being a strong person," said Varik.

Uibomägi continued, "It's about respecting the person that you are and not trying to be someone else just to please someone else, we should please ourselves."

"First you have to love yourself in order for someone else to love you," said Varik.

The band all agreed that I Wear* Experiment's 'Patience' was their favourite among the other entries, but Uibomägi also expressed a favouring of Cartoon feat. Kristel Aaslaid's 'Immortality', while Tislar had a strong preference for Púr Múdd's 'Meet Halfway' having seen them perform recently.

The band has one simple goal for participating in Eesti Laul, for the audience to enjoy their music.

"We would like the people at home to get positive energy from the song," said Varik.

"So that they feel happy by the end of the song," added Tislar.

"This is a lifetime experience," said Uibomägi before continuing, "The goal was to get in front of a new audience, and this is what we got. This is a great starting point for our band."

La La Ladies perform in the second semi-final on Saturday 20 February.
