International festival brings breakdancing champions to Estonia
The international breakdance and hip-hop festival BOE (formerly known as Battle of EST) has announced its lineup of performers at the mid-December Tartu event, including some of the world's top-ranking crews.
"For the last couple of years we have managed to bring to BOE all the winning crews of world's leading competitions like R16, Battle of the Year (BOTY) and UK's BBoy Championship. So we can say with confidence that Tartu will host the unofficial world championships in December," said Oliver Soomets, who has organized the event for 14 years, in a statement released today.
This year's headliner is the popular bboy crew Gamblerz from South Korea. Gamblerz has won major competitions across the world and enjoys considerable commercial success at home.
USA will be represented by the joint team of Flipside Technique and Beast Coast, calling itself the Beast Docious Kingz. "USA's team consists of members of its two top crews and is a a true force to be reckoned with; it defeated the recent BOTY winner and world champion Predatorz, who also won the BOE last year," Soomets said.
The Estonian crew in the 5-vs-5 VIP competition is the national champions Submission. The competition lineup also includes OBC, or Original Breakers Circle, from Russia. "OBC is Russia's best break crew and the national champion. The crew performed in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sochi and has made appearances at many other public events. Their leader Alcolil won the individual BOTY title this year," Soomets said.
The BOE will bring together around 400 dancers from 20 countries. Among some of the more far-flung locations are Morocco and Algeria.
The competitions will be held on December 13. Open workshops will take place in Tallinn Dance Act dance studio on December 12 and 14.
