Titanic Expo Attracts Record 200,000
The Titanic expo at the Seaplane Harbor has so far attracted 200,000 visitors in four months, a record for temporary exhibits.
The show, which ends next week, has surprised curators and museum experts in Estonia, who had predicted half the number, Eesti Päevaleht reported today.
The Kumu art museum, in comparison, attracts 128,000 visitors annually. The percentage of tourists versus locals who have visited the expo is yet to be calculated, but close to 90 percent of visitors during a recent Finnish school holiday week were from the northern nation.
Experts cite the aura surrounding the RMS Titanic, which sank in 1912, the popularity of the blockbuster movie and the general popularity of the Seaplane Harbor Museum itself as reasons for the huge turnout.
The exhibition features 5,000 items which have been recovered from the Titanic, including a book in Estonian. Three Estonians were on the ship, with at least one surviving.
