Actor and stage director Eino Baskin dead at 85
Eino Baskin, actor, director and comedian, died in his home last night after a period of poor health.
Baskin began his career in comedy theaters in St. Petersburg at the end of the 1950s, setting up his own radio program in 1972 and going on to make 1,000 radio shows called “Entertainer.”
He remained in the business until old age, setting up a new theater in 2005, at the age of 76. He also enjoyed a brief, but unremarkable political career as a Center Party Tallinn councilman around the turn of the century.
Baskin, who leaves behind two children, including the actor and director Roman Baskin, was married three times, suffered serious health problems, was imprisoned twice and has received a number of awards, including presidential honors.
